Miami Hurricanes: Cyrus Moss notes ‘Canes decision was last-minute

The Miami Hurricanes have had a fast-paced month in terms of recruiting. One of their bigger commitments was  2023 edge defender Cyrus Moss. The four-star commit was the sixth overall edge defender, and the second overall player in the state of Nevada per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Moss committed at the All-American Bowl on January 8.  It was an important commitment for the Miami Hurricanes.  With Miami missing out on wide receiver Kevin Coleman to Jackson State, Moss was able to deliver the positive momentum Miami was expecting that weekend.

In two seasons of recorded statistics, Moss tallied 111 total tackles in 27 games for Bishop Gorman. He also had 23 tackles for a loss. He is coming off a 2021 season that saw him tally 63 tackles.

A last-minute decision

In an interview with Woody Womack of CaneSport.com, Moss gave a little bit of insight into how his decision to come to Miami was a big one.

“Miami kind of shot up out of nowhere. It really was that last weekend when I went down there and visited. I had to come back from that and sit down, and it was only a few days before Signing Day, so  it really was kind of hectic, kind of chaotic. Lots of family talks, family decisions, kind of weighing it all out. But it came way down to the wire.”

Moss’ versatility could suit him well in this Miami Hurricanes defense. He has the ability to rush the passer as well as sit patiently and wait to get into the backfield to disrupt a play. he will certainly be an anchor for a Miami defense that looks to be greatly improved in the coming years.

With Miami landing a successful player in Brevin Jordan out of Bishop Gorman, time will tell if the school could potentially be a pipeline for Miami.
