Top Contenders for the 2024/25 NBA Championship: Analyzing the Odds

The new NBA season is getting closer, and the hype is already building. With roster changes ongoing, there’s already plenty of excitement within fandoms. Although no team has a settled squad yet, there are favorites for the championship next year. So, who’s looking strongest to take the trophy in the 2024/25 season?

Our odds come from Sportzino, which offers the strongest lines for NBA Championship predictions.

Boston Celtics +300

The Celtics are the obvious favorites. After winning a record-setting 18th championship last season, they have the lowest NBA odds in 2024. Their potential to continue this streak and win a consecutive championship is a thrilling prospect for fans.

Oklahoma City Thunder +800

Last season, the Thunder had a 57-25 record and finished first in the Western Conference. That strong performance puts them in an excellent position to challenge in the 24/25 season. However, it will be a challenge to come back from a disappointing playoff performance, losing in the Conference semi-finals to fifth-seed Dallas Mavericks. The signing of Isaiah Hartenstein should add some roster depth, allowing the Thunder to keep their squad fresher next year.

Philadelphia 76ers +820

The 76ers tumbled out in the first round of the playoffs last season. A loss to the Knicks meant they had to return to the drawing board for 24/25. Many feel the signing of Paul George will be the catalyst for a better season. With George’s addition, the 76ers will want to perform to a higher standard, both in the regular season and postseason.

Denver Nuggets +840

Denver crashed out in the Conference semi-finals last season and is looking to improve next year. The signing of Dario Saric is shrewd, as he offers extra depth and untapped potential. He’s coming off two extensive surgeries, so the Nuggets hope he can finally show what he’s capable of in their jersey. It’s a relatively small contract, leaving plenty of breathing room for further strengthening.

New York Knicks +900

With a solid second-place finish in the Eastern Conference last year and a 50-32 record, the Knicks are in a strong position to compete in the championship this year. The signing of Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets is a promising move, making them a serious contender for the championship. He will strengthen their defense while adding a secondary scoring threat. Expect the Knicks to do better than their Conference semi-final performance from last season.

Dallas Mavericks +1,000

The Mavericks went from fifth season in the Western to the NBA championship series last year. As a result, it’s no surprise to see them amongst the favorites for 24/25. However, it will take a lot of work to repeat that performance. Fortunately for the Mavericks, the signing of Klay Thompson will give them the spark they need.

Minnesota Timberwolves +1,000

After finishing second in the Western Conference and making the Conference finals, the Timberwolves will want to build on their 23/24 season. The return of Jaylen Clark, combined with the elite performances of Anthony Edwards, means the Timberwolves are dark horses going into 24/25. Expect something special from them when the season starts.
