What can Brown do for you? 4-star QB commits to Miami

In the 2021 recruiting cycle, Miami OC Rhett Lashlee locked up his QB at the 11th hour when Jake Garcia picked the Canes in front of friends and family only 4 months ago. This time around, they found their essential gun slinger for the 2022 class relatively early.

Donning a suit and tie and all because it was a “business decision,” four-star QB Jacurri Brown out of Lowndes High (Valdosta, GA) picked the Canes over Florida, Arizona State, Auburn, and Texas A&M.

Brown made the decision after making a visit to Coral Gables this past weekend with CB Isaiah Bond, another prospect Miami is on the tail of. With the dead period still in effect, he was unable to meet with Miami coaches but instead with local government officials. As he indicated, this wasn’t just a 3-4 year plan, but actually a 40-year plan.

Up until January, it was reported that the Gators were the favorites to land the 5th-best dual-threat QB in the country before ex-QBs coach Brian Johnson left for the Philadelphia Eagles. That’s when the Canes swooped in and made their move.

“Miami is the right school for me because of coach Rhett Lashlee, the offense he runs, and the fit for me,” Brown told Rivals. I feel I can be developed as a quarterback by (Lashlee). I feel his style fits mine, and Miami just seems like the perfect place for me.”

Brown also told Rivals that Lashlee did a great job of recruiting him and that the Miami OC may have talked to Brown’s mother than Brown himself.

ANALYSIS

There’s a lot to love about Brown and what he can potentially bring to Miami in the years to come.

He has excellent size at 6’4″, 205 and he’s not afraid to sling the ball downfield and has very nice mechanics. Brown really gives off the vibe that he is a big-time quarterback.

His accuracy can be improved and refined a bit, but his “floor” is still really high and it doesn’t hurt that he’ll have coach Lashlee coaching him.

Brown is also fast and athletic enough where he can hurt you with his legs and extend plays. He’s been clocked at a 4.6 40 and has rushed for 100+ yards in 14 games for far, so the Hendon Hooker and Lamar Jackson comparisons are justified.

In the 2nd play of the following clip, you’ll catch a glimpse of how good his scrambling ability really is.

Brown’s coaches have also praised his leadership ability. He’s a three-year starter for Lowndes and a two-time 7A 1st-team all-state selection. He even led Lowndes to the state championship game AS A SOPHOMORE.

I know the Canes just brought in Jake Garcia but Brown is a guy that can really give him a run for his money. All in all, for the Canes to get their quarterback for this class 6-9 months before the signing period is a big deal. Manny Diaz can now shift his focus towards other targets and filling out the rest of his class.

The dominoes should start to fall very soon and to hear more about that, go and check out the last episode of The Sixth Ring, where we had CanesInsight’s Brad Tejeda join and tell us who could be on commitment watch.
