The Miami Mutiny

Towards the end of the 2018 season, all the talk was about the “Miami Miracle”.

Since then, we have confirmed that Gronk didn’t have the angle.  And that the play was unlike anything else in franchise history.  But truth is, it did nothing to alter the Dolphins’ season.  Except for maybe driving the the team further down the draft pecking order.  That won’t happen this year.  As the Dolphins are destined to have the top pick in 2019, come one way or another.

After all, most of the talk this offseason has been around the team tanking.  And if they are in fact doing whatever they can to land Tua Tagovailoa, it would probably upset a lot of the veterans in the locker room.  But just like we learned from Adam Beasley prior to the Dolphins trade with Houston, players were ready to ‘revolt’.

So how do you think those same players felt, after the worst home loss in franchise history?  Mike Florio, the man with more whisperers around the NFL than Lord Varys in King’s Landing, suggests a mutiny is forming.

Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, multiple Dolphins players contacted their agents after Sunday’s season-opening blowout loss and directed them to attempt to engineer trades elsewhere. The players believe that the coaching staff, despite claiming that they intend to try to win, aren’t serious about competing and winning and by all appearances have bought into the notion that the Dolphins will take their lumps now in the hopes of laying the foundation via high draft picks for building a successful team later.

Now let’s not pretend that this outcome is much different, regardless of who the Dolphins still had on the roster.  Everything about this team stinks.  And time will tell how all of this shakes up for Chris Grier,  Brian Flores, and the rest of the Dolphins’ organization.  But if reports are true, there’s a time bomb waiting to go off in the locker room.  When it does, the tank will be All Systems go.

It just took minutes for the Ravens to humiliate the Dolphins

The Baltimore Ravens came out of the gate raving and making the Dolphins pay for their lack of… talent.

It took just minutes for the visiting team to show the crowd and all of us watching (forced, of course), what this Dolphins season is going to be about.

We saw a little of what the Fitzmagic is going to be during the beginning of the season, at least, until Brian Flores decides to turn it over to Rosen, probably after a 0-4 start of the season with the veteran quarterback.

Are we surprised by this start of the season?

No. But we had to see to believe, I guess.

We have been watching the Marlins do the same this past couple of years, and we’re finally getting a football version of tanking in Miami professional sports.

Dolphins trade Kiko Alonso to Saints

It’s official. Kiko Alonso is gone.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Miami Dolphins have traded LB Kiko Alonso to the New Orleans Saints

In exchange for the veteran LB the Dolphins receive LB Vince Biegel.

 

The news broke almost 24 hours after the Dolphins shipped Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills to Houston, in exchange for a treasure chest of draft picks.

Alonso, 29, was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round (46 overall) of the 2013 NFL draft.  He spent his first two seasons in Buffalo, before making a stop in Philadelphia.

He was later dealt to Miami in 2016, alongside DB Byron Maxwell.  The Eagles and Dolphins swapped first-round picks which would help them in their pursuit for Carson Wentz.

During his time in Miami, Alonso eclipsed 100+ tackles in each of his three seasons.

Whether it be for an unnecessary hit on a QB, or a game-changing interception, we will never forget you, Kiko Alonso.

Quickie Dolphins Camp Notes Day 2

DAY 2

– Glorious day today. Clear skies. Not too hot.
– Ok, forget that, It’s like the 7th ring of hell out here.
– “Allen Hurns is here to bring competition.”- Coach Flores.
– Allen Hurns is also necessary. As our own Chris Kouffman pointed out (@ckparrot), they need a true slot guy, and they had nobody on the roster that did what a true slot has done for the New England Patriots all these years.
– Albert Wilson not limited. Will not practice.
– Pads come on tomorrow (Saturday).
– Excited to see Chris Reed. Excited to see Woodard, Carradine. Some physicality.
– Players will get tested on recall from day 1 install on day 2 and so forth.- Coach Flores

– TJ McDonald is off PUP. The Rest remain. TJ McDonald looks pretty good out there. Slim. Sleek. He had a “bloated” heavy look last year in camp. He showed up in shape this year. Will say this. Further review of his 2018 film reveals a very good NFL player on a friendly contract.
– Charles Harris has lined up wide on each side of the formation. Going to be interesting to see how it translates when people actually try to block you.
– The Team stretch is unlike any team stretch I’ve seen before. You gotta see it to understand. Perpetual motion. Emphasis on staying loose, Hydration.
– QB’s warming up. Rosen never drives it during warmups. He is today. On Day 1, it was lolly pops. He is showing some power today.
– Mike Gesicki might have the best hands on the team. I don’t remember his last drop.
– He just dropped one.
– Goal line work with the QB’s. Rosen displays some touch.
– Rosen being bad throwing on the run, is a thing.
– We are not allowed to talk about what they are specifically doing, but the run game is going to be completely different in every aspect, from play call, alignment, even cadence
– This DJ is on FIYAH. That was Biggie, Wu-Tang Clan, and Busta Rhymes, back to back to back. I was tempted to perform on press row, and then I came face to face with my own mortality as I realized that most of these players were not born when these artists were at the peak of their powers.

Header for first day of training camp

– DeVante Parker, well. He’s good. Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah. I get it.
– Josh Rosen has some moments. Good on an over route. Fast on an option route. Quick to recognize the back in the flat.
– Good for Josh Rosen, but he is not the best QB on this field, and it’s obvious.
– Some 11v11 here….Rosen threw late on a cross. You can see he wanted the guy to clear the zone…good idea, bad execution. Incomplete.
– Uneventful practice today. A lot of Indy drills. Pads come on tomorrow, so it makes sense that they have a lite practice.
– Pads tomorrow. We get to learn MUCH MORE.

Dolphins make Xavien Howard highest paid defensive back in NFL history

The day has finally arrived.

After months of speculating, the Miami Dolphins today, made Xavien Howard the highest paid defensive back in NFL history.  The former second-round pick from Baylor, struggled early on in his career-before taking the next step in 2018.  And for a team that has very little resembling a shutdown defensive back, the move was absolutely necessary.  Howard now becomes the face of the Dolphins’ defense, and will be tasked with shutting down the opposition’s No.1 wide receiver.

Here are the details according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Howard, 25, led the NFL in interceptions last season with seven.  He was also invited to his first Pro Bowl–if you believe those type of things matter.

Now that the Dolphins inked Howard to a lucrative long-term deal, they will now focus on resigning left tackle, Laremy Tunsil.
