Nasim Núñez compared himself to the best after first workout with the Marlins
Nasim Núñez was the second pick in the 2019 MLB Draft by the Marlins, and the first one to sign a contract with the team
On Monday, he got to work out with the team before the first game of the series against the Saint Louis Cardinals.
Batting with the group of the starters, Núñez hit from both sides of the plate, while listening to pieces of advice from players, coaches and, Derek Jeter.
“I was playing with these guys in my video game a couple of days ago. It was an honor they were so open with me”, said Núñez, right after his workout.
Nasim Núñez and first steps as a professional
Watching his first hacks as a professional hitter was Marlins President of Operation, Derek Jeter.
“It was intimidating talking to him at first. He asked me which is the hardest groundball. I didn’t think about the box and told him that the backhand. He told me the hardest one is the one hit right at you because as a shortstop, you always need to move your feet”.
Núñez received his first lesson, right out the gate…
Hasim Núñez, a switch hitter since just two years
The new Marlins prospect said he’s only been switch-hitting for two years now and that in batting practice he feels better hitting righty.
In games, as a lefty is his best shot to get a hit.
Marlins shortstop Miguel Rojas took time to be with Núñez during his defensive workout. “He’s very good for his age. He’s got a strong arm,” Rojas told Ricardo Montes de Oca once the two were done fielding groundballs.
“Rojas was telling me to stop the padding the glove, because as you grow up it takes less time for faster runners to get to first, and to get used to getting on top of the ball.
