Miami Hurricanes: Elite 2023 QB set to visit Coral Gables this weekend

The Miami Hurricanes have been busy recruiting over the last couple of weeks, and they will have an intriguing visitor this weekend. 2023 five-star quarterback Dante Moore is set to visit Coral Gables while in town for the battle Miami event. This news was first reported by Gaby Urrutia of 247Sports.

Moore is the third overall quarterback in the 2023 class, and the top player in his class from the state of Michigan per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He has offers from all of the big-name schools. In addition to Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Penn State are just some of the schools that have extended an offer his way. He is the most interested in those four.

Moore completed 177-of-244 passes, throwing for 3047 yards, 40 touchdowns and three interceptions for Martin Luther King High school in Michigan. One of the things that sticks out to me in particular about his game is his pocket presence. He does a very good job of being able to set his feet and identify his read quickly to make the throw.

In addition to just what he can do in the pocket, he also is able to make throws on the run. Primarily, it seems like he wants to stay in the pocket to make his throws, and that is certainly his strength. He also possesses a very good deep ball, and is able to deliver the ball with accuracy. There is a reason why he is a highly-rated quarterback, and it is extremely evident when you look at his tape.

Currently, the Miami Hurricanes’ 2023 recruiting class ranks 45th in the country and sixth overall in the ACC per the 247Sports team rankings. That will change quickly, as Miami currently only has one commitment in the class. Lamar Seymour is the only player in the class right now. He committed to Miami back on April 16, 2020.

I’m excited that Moore is coming into town. If he is in town for Battle Miami, it’s encouraging that he wants to visit the campus. Who knows if anything will come from it, but he just adds another big name in what is going to be a productive weekend for Miami.

Miami Hurricanes: Former Clemson WR Frank Ladson is coming home

The Miami Hurricanes were able to get a big pick up for their wide receiver room on Saturday afternoon. Former Clemson wide receiver Frank Ladson announced he was transferring to the program.

Ladson is coming home. He was a highly-coveted wide receiver out of Miami South Dade. A member of the class of 2019, he decided to take his talents to Clemson.

In three seasons with the Tigers, he caught 31 passes for 428 yards and six touchdowns. Injury problems and Covid-19 issues derailed his career at Clemson a bit. Even still, he was able to produce when given the opportunities.

Ladson will have a chance to be a big-time contributor. When you look at all of the wide receiver talent that the Miami hurricanes lost, there will be room for him to make an impact. Charleston Rambo, Mark Pope, and Mike Harley are just some of the names that Miami lost at wide receiver.

A post shared by Frank Ladson Jr. (@frank9.jr)

Measuring in at six-foot-three, 205 pounds, Ladson should fit very well in Miami’s offense. He brings a big-play threat at the receiver position, and he can get downfield. We saw him do it at Clemson, and he should be able to bring the same element of play to Miami. He is also good on intermediate routes. In this respect, he can use his speed on things such as slant plays to make things happen after the catch.

Ladson is the perfect fit for this style of football that is played today. He gives the Miami Hurricanes a big-time weapon. With Tyler Van Dyke showing that he is one of the up-and-coming quarterbacks in college football, this could be a very good match for both receiver and quarterback.

I’m definitely excited to see how Ladson is going to fit into this offense. he has the size and play-making ability to be a top weapon

Miami Hurricanes getting visit from elite 2023 TE next weekend

Recruiting news is flying for the Miami Hurricanes. One particular name to watch is 2023 tight end Mac Markway. He is scheduled to visit Miami next Saturday. This news was first reported by Steve Wilfong of 247Sports.

Markway is the fifth overall tight end in the 2023 class, and the third overall player in his class from the state of Missouri per the 247Sports Composite rankings. A four-star recruit, he initially committed to Florida on July 27. He decommitted from the program on December 19.

In addition to Florida, he had 27 offers. Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, LSU, and Michigan were just some of the schools that extended one his way. He also received offers from Miami and Oregon.

What would he be able to bring to Miami Hurricanes?

Measuring in at six-foot-four, 250 pounds, Markway plays physically. When I watched some of his highlights, I was impressed with the way he was able to block. That’s not to say he lacks receiving skills, he does very well in that department. He is able to find soft spots in defensive zones, and make possession catches. He has solid hands, and relies on the combination of route running and good hands to make plays.

It seems like he functions really well as somebody that can make things happen after the catch, rather than being a big-play, stretch-the-field tight end. That is certainly not a knock on him. Blockers and intermediate route tight ends are equally as important to the offense.

There are other schools in play for Markway. One of those schools is Iowa. He is scheduled to visit Iowa next Sunday. Due to Iowa’s history of developing tight ends, the Hawkeyes may present a challenge to the Hurricanes. We will have to see how this plays out.

Miami Hurricanes hire Kevin Smith as running backs coach

The Miami Hurricanes have a new running backs coach. Tuesday, it was announced that the program hired former Ole Miss running backs coach Kevin Smith for the position. This news was first reported by Five Reasons Sports.

Smith bring an extensive amount of experience. He Joined Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss for two seasons, making the jump from FAU. In 2020, Ole Miss averaged 210.6 rushing yards per game. The Rebels scored 19 touchdowns on the ground.

One of the things that I really like about this hire is that running backs under Smith have had recent success. Devin Singletary had 32 touchdowns in the 2017 season to go along with the 1,918 rushing yards. That 2017 season was fruitful for Florida Atlantic. Singletary ended up accumulating  185.3 yards per game.

Smith was a good running back in his own right, setting tons of records at UCF.

A smart hire for Miami Hurricanes

I like this get for a couple of reasons. For one, Smith has a recent track record of success both as a coach and as a player. For example, Devin Singletary was a successful player at the collegiate level. He is now with the Buffalo Bills in the NFL. In that respect, Smith fits the same type of blueprint as the other coaches on the staff. He has a proven track record of identifying, developing, and getting talent prepared for the next level.

There is also another interesting thing about this higher. Smith landed a commitment from TCU transfer Zach Evans. He officially transferred on January 6. Projected as a second-round running back, Evans ran for 1,063 yards and nine touchdowns in two seasons at TCU. With Smith now in the fold for the Miami Hurricanes, could Evans come along? The latter would certainly be a big boost to the Miami Hurricanes running game.

In any event, this is a big hire by the Miami Hurricanes. Smith brings experience as well as developmental ability to this coaching staff. For those reasons among others, I think he will be a great fit.

Miami Hurricanes still in play for five-star WR Brandon Inniss

As the Miami Hurricanes continue to recruit, Mario Cristobal is in contact frequently with five-star wide receiver Brandon Inniss. This news was first reported by Steve Wilfong of 247Sports.

Inniss is the top wide receiver in the 2023 class, and the third overall player in his class from the state of Florida per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Right now, most 247Sports Crystal Balls have him going to Oklahoma.

He is being offered by all of the major schools. Oklahoma, Alabama, Arizona State, Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, and USC are just some of the schools that have extended an offer his way.

Right now, it seems like the Miami Hurricanes have a long shot at landing him. However, in this day and age of recruiting you can never count anything out. The fact that Cristobal is talking to him is encouraging. As we all know, he is one of the best recruiters in the country. Can he work his magic here?

What would he bring to Miami Hurricanes?

Inniss is a very good outside receiver, and he is the quintessential deep threat. He uses his speed to get down the field and make things happen offensively. He measures in add 6 feet, 190 pounds. That may seem a bit small for an outside receiver, but his speed makes up for his lack of height.

It’s very easy to see why Oklahoma is recruiting him. He would fit well in their wide-open offense, and he would be a big-time playmaker. His ability to slip by defensive backs is one of his best assets. Once he gets the ball, he can make things happen after the catch.

It’s going to be fascinating to see where the Miami Hurricanes fall in Inniss’s  recruitment. Although he is favorite to go to Oklahoma at the moment, things can change. Cristobal is known for his recruiting prowess. He may have to pull out some stops if he wants to bring Inniss to Miami.

Miami Hurricanes land four-star edge defender Cyrus Moss

Saturday, the Miami Hurricanes received a commitment from 2022 edge defender Cyrus Moss.

A four-star recruit, Moss is the sixth overall edge player in the 2022 class, as well as the second overall player in his class from the state of Nevada per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Moss comes to Miami from Bishop Gorman. Miami is no stranger to Bishop Gorman. Former Miami tight end Brevin Jordan played high school football there.

Moss had a bunch of offers on the table. In addition to Miami, he also held offers from Alabama, Clemson, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Texas, and Notre Dame. He had 30 offers in total.

Moss brings defensive versatility to Miami Hurricanes

Measuring in at six-foot-six, 220 pounds, Moss played both the edge defender and outside linebacker at Bishop Gorman. He is very good at disrupting the passing game, as he is able to follow the quarterbacks eyes very well and bat down passes. In addition to his explosiveness, he is also a very patient player. He is not afraid to sit back and let the play develop and then attack before the play develops fully.

Moss will be able to bring a pass-rushing presence to the Miami Hurricanes as well as a player that can disrupt offenses in the backfield. He is the type of player that you could build a defense around. Edge rushers are extremely important. We see in the NFL the premium that is placed on the position itself. The fact that Moss is able to bring that as well as other elements to his game is crucial. Having a good edge defender is important in football these days.

Currently, the 2022 Miami Hurricanes recruiting class ranks 48th nationally and seventh overall in the ACC per the 247Sports Team Rankings. All things considered, Mario Cristobal and his coaching staff have done a nice job of putting their mark on this class. They have managed to keep a lot of the original commitments to the class as well as add their own flair to it. We thought that there may be fireworks this weekend, and there certainly was.

Miami Hurricanes key lineman target set to visit this month

We know that the Miami Hurricanes are going to have a big recruiting month. Hopefully, some news will come in favor of Miami this weekend at the All-American Bowl. However, there are some other dates that we should keep an eye on.

One of those dates is January 22. That is the day that Monroe Freeling plans to visit Miami. This was first reported by Brian Dohn of InsideTheU.

Freeling is a four-star offensive tackle. He is the ninth overall offensive tackle in the 2023 class, and the top player in his class from the state of South Carolina per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

This is certainly interesting to me for a couple reasons. For one, this is a case where the coaching staff, specifically Mario Cristobal and Alex Mirabal, will be following up. They have done their homework on this lineman before.

Another reason this is a little bit intriguing to me is because he was offered by the Miami Hurricanes when Manny Diaz was still the head coach. The offer was officially extended on May 29. Points of contact have already been established. In both cases, this could help the current coaching staff land him.

As we’ve seen here in the last couple of days, Miami has really begun to focus on getting offensive lineman into the program.

What would he bring to Miami Hurricanes?

Measuring in at six-foot-seven, 283 pounds, Freeing s a physically imposing lineman. One of the things that jumped out to meet when watching his film was that he was not afraid to finish his blocks. This in turn opened up holes and running lanes for the running backs.

One of the key things that  was noticeable was that he was a dominant force on the line. This is something I am noticing with all of the lineman that Miami is interested in. They all seem to be dominating matchups, and  are physical.

Currently the Miami 2023 recruiting class ranks 46th nationally and sixth overall in the ACC per the 247Sports Team Rankings. This is certainly nothing to worry about, as I expect those rankings to improve shortly.

I will be interested to see what comes of Freeling’s visit. This is another case where the Miami Hurricanes could be in a good position to land a recruit.

Miami Hurricanes in good spot with four-star RB TreVonte’ Citizen

As the Miami Hurricanes continue to recruit, they appear to be in a good position for a running back. TreVonte’ Citizen is one of the top running backs of the 2023 class. He is considering the Hurricanes, and they have been one of the schools he’s been in close contact with per Steve Wlitfong of 247Sports.

Citizen is a four-star running back, and is  the ninth overall running back in the 2022 class. He is the 10th overall player in his class from the state of Louisiana per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Right now, all Crystal Balls have him going to LSU. He has offers from several big-name schools , including LSU, Texas A&M, Florida, and Miami.

His statistics are pretty impressive. In three years of recorded statistics, he recorded 135 carries for 121 yards and 14 touchdowns. His best season came in 2020 as he carried the ball 62 times for 615 yards and eight touchdowns.

He could give boost to Miami Hurricanes running game

Measuring in at 6 feet, 217 pounds, Citizen is a physical running back. He hits holes hard, and is not afraid to take on contact. Citizen would be a solid running back in the red zone. He is a complete running back in the sense that he has an element of elusiveness when he runs, and he also has physicality. That physicality would allow Miami to have an automatic weapon in the red zone.

Citizen would give the  Miami Hurricanes a playmaker at running back, and that is something they have not had in the past couple seasons.  Last season, Miami ranked third-to-last in the ACC with 127.7 yards per game.  He obviously would not be able to give them a boost for the 2022 season, but a commitment could allow Miami to get the ball rolling for the future. Building a successful pipeline at running back would be important.

It will be interesting to see how his recruitment plays out. One thing is for certain, Miami is definitely in the picture.

Miami Hurricanes: Alex Mirabal in the fold as offensive line coach

There was a bit of news on Sunday for the Miami Hurricanes as Alex Mirabal changed his Twitter bio. It is now changed to signify the fact that he is the offensive line coach for the Hurricanes.

A former high school teammate of Mario Cristobal’s, Mirabal served as the associate head coach as well as the offensive line coach while the two were at Oregon.

There could be more news for Miami coming on the coaching staff front as early as this week. As the season continues to wind down, more names continue to swirl. Names to keep in mind include Aaron Feld to fill a strength and conditioning role. Joe Salave’a could potentially fill role of defensive line coach.

In addition to those two, Brian McLendon could be named wide receivers coach. Jim Mastro could also join the staff, potentially as a running backs coach. All of the coaches listed above were with Cristobal while he was at Oregon.

Mirabal has coached four NFL draft picks. His most notable one was 2021 first-round selection Penei Sewell. In addition to NFL draft picks, he coached five All-Americans during his time at Oregon.

He is also a solid recruiter recruiting seven four-star lineman in the past two and a half years. He knows how to recruit.

In getting Mirabal, the Miami Hurricanes have a coach that is the complete package. He knows how to develop talent and get that talent to the NFL. Mirabal is very good at identifying talent, as shown by his recruiting prowess. Having a coach that has several areas of strength is a tremendous asset to a staff. Mirabal was a tremendous asset to Cristobal while he was at Oregon, and I have a feeling that will be the case with both of them in Miami.

Mirabal to Miami is a tremendous grab for the Hurricanes. Now all we need to wait for is the rest of the coaching staff to be official.

Miami Hurricanes: Top 2023 RB set to come to Elite Prospect Day

Earlier this week, it was announced the Miami Hurricanes would be hosting an Elite Prospect Day on January 22. This event is expected to draw some of the top recruits in the country. One player whose name will be on the guest list is five-star running back Richard Young.  He is the top running back in the 2023 recruiting class. This was first reported by Gaby Urrutia of InsideTheU.

Young is the 16th overall player in the 2023 class, and the fifth overall player from the state of Florida per the 247Sports composite rankings.

His offer sheet is very impressive. Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State are the biggest schools that have extended him an offer. Florida has given him an offer as well. He is highly-coveted. For their part, Miami put out their offer on January 17, 2020.

Young had an extremely impressive 2021 season for Leigh Senior High School. He carried the ball 196 times for 1,755 yards and 19 touchdowns. In three seasons of recorded high school statistics, Young tallied 407 rushing attempts for 3,591 yards and 33 touchdowns.

What could he bring to Miami Hurricanes?

Measuring in at five-foot-11, 200 pounds, Young can identify running lanes quickly. Once he sees an opening, he immediately hits it. One of the most impressive things about his play is his initial burst of speed. As soon as he gets the football in his hands, he shoots through the gaps. In turn, he forces the second level of defense to collapse quickly.

Currently, the 2023 Miami Hurricanes recruiting class ranks 44th nationally and sixth overall in the ACC per the  247Sports Team Rankings. I would undoubtedly expect to those numbers to change, as Mario Cristobal and his coaching staff begin to make their mark.

Young is one of the most coveted running backs in recent memory. Cristobal has never shied away from a pursuit of a top prospect. Landing young that would undoubtedly be a proverbial notch in Cristobal’s belt.
