Best Record Eagles Continue to Rise in NFL

The 2022–23 Philadelphia Eagles surprised the world with their run to the Super Bowl. Led by former second-round pick Jalen Hurts, a vaunted defense, and one of the best wide receiving duos in the league in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, Philadelphia nearly brought home the second Lombardi Trophy in team history. 

 

Thanks to last season, the Eagles’ net worth is as high as ever. They’ve even added several players to help bring a championship home in 2023–24, and they’re now an NFL-best 8-1 after a win against the rival Dallas Cowboys. Here’s what you need to know. 

 

 

Eagles’ Net Worth

Philadelphia has always loved its football team. One of the oldest franchises in the league, the Eagles won three championships between 1945 and 1960 before entering a long wilderness period. Between 1961 and 1977, Philadelphia never reached the playoffs and only had a winning record twice. 

 

Aside from a surprising Super Bowl appearance in 1980, there wasn’t tremendous success between 1978 and 1993 before current owner Jeffrey Lurie bought the team in 1994. After hiring Andy Reid in 1999 and building a competitive NFL roster at the turn of the century, the Eagles’ fortunes began to change. 

 

Under Reid, the Eagles made the playoffs nine times in 14 seasons, reaching the NFC Championship game four times and the Super Bowl in 2004. Lurie had bought the team for $195 million, and as of 2023, the team’s value jumped to $5.8 billion, the 10th-most valuable team in football. That number will only continue to grow as the team adds more talent. 

 

Free Agent Signing Terrell Edmunds

The secondary that helped Philadelphia reach the Super Bowl was dealt a severe blow when safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson signed a one-year, $6.5 million contract with the Lions. They nearly lost Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay as well before signing him to a three-year, $42 million contract. 

 

Needing help in the secondary, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman signed former Steelers starting safety Terrell Edmunds, a solid player, to replace Gardner-Johnson. Edmunds logged 70 tackles last season in Pittsburg, along with two sacks. Unlike Gardner-Johnson, however, Edmunds doesn’t generate turnovers. 

 

Gardner-Johnson hauled in a league-leading six interceptions last season, while Edmunds has just five interceptions in his six seasons. 

 

 

Free Agent Signing Marcus Mariota

As the former second overall pick in the 2015 draft, Mariota spent two seasons backing up Derek Carr in Las Vegas before getting the opportunity to start again in Atlanta. The results were a mixed bag. He went 5-8 as the starter and averaged just 170 passing yards per game, the lowest number of his career. When he got benched for his rookie teammate Desmond Ridder, Mariota left the team. Head coach Arthur Smith noted that Mariota had been dealing with a knee injury but didn’t say that was why he was gone. 

 

Fast forward to 2023, and Mariota signed a one-year, $5 million deal to back up MVP candidate Jalen Hurts. While Mariota’s drama with the Falcons is surprising, he did attempt to set the record straight. Mariota looks like one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league in a new environment, perfectly equipped to fill in for Hurts if needed.

 

First-Round Draft Pick Jalen Carter

Entering the 2023 draft, Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter was a consensus top-5 draft prospect, ranked as high as #2 by sports analytics company Pro Football Focus (PFF). In fact, PFF says Carter was “neck and neck with Quinnen Williams” for the best defensive tackle prospect ever graded by the publication. However, his draft stock plummeted after he was involved in a fatal car crash celebrating Georgia’s national championship. He pleaded no contest to the charges against him for his involvement and received 12 months probation. 

 

The unfortunate circumstances allowed the Eagles to snatch him up with the ninth overall pick, with teams before Philadelphia not wanting to risk a pick on the lineman. Carter joined a defensive line that is already among the best in the league, featuring perennial Pro Bowler Fletcher Cox and star edge rushers Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat.

 

First-Round Draft Pick Nolan Smith

 

Philadelphia got another great value pick at #30, drafting linebacker Nolan Smith. The linebacker ranked #13 on PFF’s big board, but his lack of size at under 240 pounds as an edge rusher caused him to fall in the draft. Smith joined the strongest pass rush in the NFL, allowing him to occupy a backup role as he adapts to the NFL. So far this season, Smith has dealt with injuries — but will surely be a third-down pass rush specialist when healthy again. 

 

What Is Next for the Eagles?

The Eagles were already a dynamic franchise prior to 2022. Having won their first Super Bowl in 2017, Philadelphia is one of the most respected teams in the NFL. However, the improbable Super Bowl run in 2022–23 only improved the team’s net worth. Not only that, but a tremendous draft class makes one of the best defenses in football even better.

Week 8 NFL Power Rankings: New team at the top

Week 8 of the NFL season is already here and some teams have emerged as championship contenders while others might be headed towards the list of pretenders. 

 

Who would’ve thought that the Jacksonville Jaguars were going to start their season 5-2? They came through with a big win against the Saints on a short week and Travis Etienne has shown that he is one of the top running backs in the league. 

 

How about the teams in the AFC North? The Browns, Steelers and Ravens all came out with wins on Sunday. 

 

The Cleveland Browns have arguably the best defense in the league and put it on display after forcing four turnovers against the Colts in their 39-38 victory. Despite their problems at the quarterback position, they are off to a 4-2 start. 

 

The Steelers went on the road (not really) and beat the Rams 24-17. Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren each had rushing touchdowns and wide receiver George Pickens caught five passes for 107 yards. 

 

But the team that has emerged as a legitimate contender is the Baltimore Ravens. They put everyone in the league on notice after completely annihilating the then 5-1 Detroit Lions by a score of 38-6. It looked like Lamar Jackson was playing on easy mode as he threw for 357 yards and three touchdowns while 36 yards and a touchdown on the ground. It’ll be interesting to see how this loss will affect the Lions moving forward. Was this just a bad game or were the Ravens just too much for them to handle? They host the Raiders next week on Monday Night Football. 

 

Speaking of too much to handle, the Chiefs routed the Chargers on their home turf 31-17 to move to 6-1 on the season and it seems as if Taylor Swift’s presence is taking Travis Kelce’s game to a whole other level. The tight end had 12 catches for 179 yards and a touchdown. But also, don’t overlook Patrick Mahomes’s 424 passing yards and four touchdowns. 

 

Bill Belichick got his 300th regular season win after his Patriots beat the Bills 29-25 in a game in which the New England offense finally woke up. Mac Jones threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns while Ezekiel Elliott and Kendrick Bourne found their way into the end zone. 

 

Alright and then there are the Dolphins. Miami went on the road to Philadelphia in a prime time game with the Eagles and had trouble moving the ball early in what would turn out to be a 31-17 Eagles victory. 

 

Was the officiating lopsided? Sure. Was Miami missing starters on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball? Absolutely. But there has to be credit given to Philadelphia and the amount of talent they have on both sides of the ball. 

 

The Dolphins just couldn’t get any traction through the ground game and because Miami was missing multiple starters on their offensive line, Tua Tagovailoa had no time to throw and was sacked four times. 

 

On defense, the Dolphins couldn’t figure out how to contain Philadelphia’s receivers. 

 

A.J. Brown had a huge night with 10 catches for 137 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Dallas Goedart had five catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. Yes you can say the Dolphins were missing their best two cornerbacks in Jalen Ramsey and Xavien Howard but again, the Eagles are an elite football team. 

 

With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 5-2 and the narrative surrounding them is if they can beat good teams. Their five wins have come against the Chargers, Patriots, Broncos, Giants and Panthers who have a combined record of 8-25. Can Miami win the big games? As the season unfolds, we’ll have our answer.

Former Eagles Players who Added to Franchise History Books

This season has been pretty phenomenal for Philadelphia Eagles fans, and it’s understandable that the fans would be getting a little bit excited about the prospect of lifting the Lombardi this season. Apart from a Super Bowl in 2017, the Eagles have kind of been dry since the 1960s at this point, but they destroyed the 49ers this past weekend 31-7 to book their place in the Super Bowl, where they’ll face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, February 12th. The Chiefs had a little bit of a harder time claiming their place as they edged out a 23-20 win over the Bengals.

Today, we’re going to take a brief detour on the path to the future and take a look behind us. The history books are full of big names when it comes to people who have represented the Philadelphia Eagles, so we’re going to look at some of the biggest names to pull on that jersey and take a little bit of time to go into what made them such important figures for the Eagles, etching their names in the history of this franchise forever.

 

  1. Reggie White – Defensive End
  2. Chuck Bednarik – Linebacker
  3. Steve Van Buren – Running Back
  4. Brian Dawkins – Safety
  5. Pete Pihos – Tight End

 

Pete Pihos

 

When it comes to players from deep in the history books, between 1953 and 1955, Pihos led the league in receiving, was outstanding for a tight end, and was a very physical player once he received the ball, to the point where defenders would genuinely consider whether tackling him was a good idea. He would go on to make the Pro Bowl six times in a row, which is an incredibly impressive feat. 

 

Brian Dawkins

 

There are few names loved more by Eagles fans than Brian Dawkins; he was picked up in the second round of the 1996 draft. He’s a member of the fairly exclusive “20/20” club, being one of very few players to ever post both 20 sacks and 20 interceptions, which is impressive. But when it comes to Dawkins, it wasn’t just his stats that made him so good; he put his body on the line like a human wrecking ball, making huge plays, taking games by the scruff of the neck, and changing the momentum with his own hands.

 

Steve Van Buren

 

Steve Van Buren led the league in rushing yards in four of his eight years playing professionally, and while he may not be one of the “greatest” running backs of all time in terms of stats, for the Eagles he was fantastic. He built up a reputation as a terrifying returner, adding five touchdowns to his career stats from returning kicks and punts. Even though he represented the Eagles way back in the 40s and 50s, it’s fair to say he is still one of the greatest Eagles of all time.

 

Chuck Bednarik

 

Chuck Bednarik is a player who will go down in history as one of the most brutal men to make tackles. He would shut down the most bold and stupid players who dared challenge him. He came to the Eagles in 1949 as the first pick in the draft and stayed with the Eagles for a pretty staggering 14 years. Bednarik is a Pro Football Hall of Famer and fully deserves that status. 

 

Reggie White isn’t just one of the greatest Eagles of all time; he’s one of the greatest to ever play the game.

Reggie White is arguably everyone’s number one pick here; he was picked up by the Eagles in the 1985 supplemental draft, recording 11 sacks in his rookie season and not posting numbers below that in his time in Philadelphia. But, as one of the greatest players in history, it’s insane to put him anywhere other than first on this list. Unfortunately, some poor decisions by the top brass had him slip away to the Packers in 1993, but he was absolutely incredible for the Eagles and everywhere else he played, really, earning him a spot in the pro football hall of fame. 

 

With that being said, it’s time to look forward. The Eagles are scheduled to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 57 on February 12th at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. We’ve examined how experts believe this one will play out, who the favorite is, what the over/under is, and brought you the best odds on the big game. For fans located in sports betting regulated states like Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, and Ohio, there are also plenty of betting promotions that are currently available for the Super Bowl. 2022 NFL Draft Rumors

It’s the largest smokescreens NFL teams put out year after year. Many NFL Teams moves are a mystery as news is intentionally leaked out by the organizations themselves, truth or not.

The odds and news have changed dramatically over the last days as this years NFL Draft is truly the most unpredictable in years.

Here are some of the 2022 NFL Draft rumors and notes:

Deebo Samuel

League source confirms Deebo Samuel is not being traded at this time, which means a draft day move is unlikely for many teams hoping to get an electric player.

Top 10 news

Jacksonville Jaguars

Georgia EDGE rusher Travon Walker is garnering a lot of hype lately and the oddsmakers are betting on the Bulldog product to be taken first overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

I’ve had Aidan Hutchinson in several mock drafts to Jacksonville, but with rumors coming out, it may not be far fetched.

Schematically, it favors Walker than Hutchinson as Walker can play outside linebacker, standup EDGE and as an interior lineman. This help out K’Lavon Chaisson and Foye Olukun, compared to Hutchinson who is a hand in the dirt rusher.

Detroit Lions

A Malik Willis pairing in Detroit is all about the future. Willis can learn behind Goff as he needs the most development of any quarterback in this years 2022 NFL Draft class.

General Manager Brad Holmes is “looking” at the quarterback position and it might not be with the second overall pick.

It may come down to Aidan Hutchinson or Travon Walker to beef up the defensive trenches.

However, how much longer does Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers have left to play, the same may be said about Kirk Cousins.

The Chicago Bears still need some pieces and Justin Fields is still developing, drafting Willis may pay off in the future.

Houston Texans

Derek Stingley Jr. and the Texans have had connections for a while due to his former DB coach part of the Texans Coaching staff.

If Houston is all in on Davis Mills, building the trenches would be a better option with the third overall pick in the NFL Draft. In the latest mocks and with some news coming out, the Texans do have two offensive tackles in mind: Evan Neal and Ikem Ekonwu.

It’s a deep defensive class towards the backend of the draft, especially for defenders. The 2022 NFL Draft rumors have the trading back from the 13th overall pick.

New York Jets

I’ve heard that Robert Saleh is not a big Travon Walker fan. Also, Kyle Hamilton fourth overall would not fit with what the Jets defense is looking to build.

Ikem Ekonwu is a favorite of Jets General Manager Joe Douglas. Having another offensive lineman fortifies the the line for Zach Wilson and we may see shades of his BYU playing days.

Gang green will look to load up on offense by pairing Wilson arm with a big body wide receiver in the likes of Drake London. Jameson Williams is a possibility with the tenth overall selection.

Head Coach Robert Saleh may want to get better in the trenches on defense. If Kayvon Thibodeaux falls, it may be a tossup between him and Jermaine Johnson.

New York Giants

The 2022 NFL Draft rumor mill has it that the Giants may look to trade back a few spots to gain more value.

While General Manager Joe Schoen has hinted that the offensive line is a priority, they may forgo passing on a lineman for more pressing needs. An EDGE rusher, a deep class overall, is very much in play. Especially the top three in Thibodeaux, Walker, and Johnson.

If the Giants are comfortable at fifth and seventh overall Evan Neal and Charles Cross are targets. Big Blue has a big decision to make after the draft if they want to keep Daniel Jones for a fifth year, which does not seem likely.

Carolina Panthers

Carolina is a weird team this year. Considering the fact that they are heavily interested in a quarterback this year, Sam Darnold is still “the guy”.

They have the sixth pick and their next is in the fourth round. I highgly expect Carolina to select a quarterback with the physical tools of Matt Corral. Kenny Pickett seems like the logical choice– have Matt Rhule and co. made a logical decision recently?

Atlanta Falcons

Expect Terry Fontenet and the Falcons to after several EDGE rushers hard. I’ve heard Kayvon Thibodeaux is a favorite but Jermaine Johnsons skillset is very hard to pass up on.

Atlanta could be a dark horse for Malik Willis if he were to fall to the eighth pick, even if Kayvon Thibodeaux is on the board.

Seattle Seahawks

Seattle just seems so perfect for Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner.

They’ll have to re-build their defense and Sauce brings the moxie and physical play style Carroll wants in his defense.

However, recent draft history has shown that the Seahawks routinely trade back to garner more picks later on to fill needs. Offensive line is another deep position group in this years class.

Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia is on the market for cornerbacks and Trent McDuffie has been mocked routinely. The 2022 NFL Draft rumor mill has Kaiir Elam as the third or fourth corner picked, I would not be shocked if Kaiir Elam is picked up by the Eagles with their second first round pick.

The Eagles are also on the marke for an EDGE rusher, George Karlaftis has been a mainstay in several recent mock drafts. Although, another wide receiver for Jalen Hurts would not hurt, a potential trade up for Jameson Williams may be in play. Garrett Wilson could also be on the board.

Kyle Hamilton

Hamilton seems to be one of the most polarizing players in this draft cycle as he can do it all on the defensive side of the ball.

The range he showed on tape didn’t match the speed he showed in workouts; shockingly, to NFL teams it may matter. However, teams within the top 10 have other pressing needs than a safety.

The Washington Commanders and Houston Texans have been heavily linked to Kyle Hamilton in the 2022 NFL Draft rumors.

Running back in Round 1?

A new saying goes that you do not ever take a running back in the first round, there are differing opinions.

There’s been a recent trend of running backs devalued in the first round; however, it is situationally based.

The 2022 NFL Draft rumors has the Buffalo Bills circling around Iowa State’s Breece Hall as the first running back taken off the board. Pair with a lethal aerial attack in Orchard Park, the Bills may well be on their way back to the AFC Championship game.

Miami Dolphins

It’s quiet in south beach, a bit too quiet. It’s been an aggressive off-season for the Miami Dolphins and General Manager Chris Grier.

Grier talked about finding the right time to be aggressive in the off-season and the NFL Draft is a part of it.

With Miami only having four picks in this years draft a move up to grab a player they really like is a good possibility to complete a piece on either side of the ball.

Fitzpatrick, Parker, Gesicki tank-proof as Dolphins stun Eagles

This seemed like the Dolphins’ ideal afternoon until the 2019 season mercifully ends.

Play hard. Play smart. Play close. Lose, while others among the NFL’s lowliest win — in this case, the Bengals and the Redskins.

Except for one thing.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, DeVante Parker, Mike Gesicki and Brian Flores didn’t oblige.

All four were outstanding in Miami’s come-from-behind 37-31 win against the sagging Philadelphia Eagles, part of the NFL’s worst division. The Dolphins, yes, the Dolphins, simply couldn’t stop scoring, with 23 unanswered in the second half. Without a running game, at least until tank commander Kallen Ballage left for Patrick Laird due to a leg injury, Fitzpatrick was nearly perfect in the second half, finishing 27 of 39 for  365 yards. Parker and Gesicki combined for 238 of those yards, manhandling their matchups, frequently high-pointing the ball, with Fitzpatrick completing 12 of 17 to them.

And the undrafted Laird, who should have been playing more the past few weeks, showed wiggle on the drive that put the Dolphins ahead late. They did this is front of a crowd that was roughly 70 percent Eagles fans, serenading them with “Fly Eagles Fly.”

And they did it with Flores flair, with the first year head coach taking every conceivable chance, a welcome change from most of his predecessors.

A deep completion to Parker for a touchdown on fourth down, and another fourth down conversion to Parker on the clinching drive.
